Cast Partials

Cast partial denture is a type of partial denture fabricated using a cast metal framework along with acrylic resin prosthetic teeth that offer the best fit. As they sit on the teeth and are also to them, they are extremely stable and retentive. The teeth will have to be altered slightly beforehand in order for the partial denture to rest upon them so that they won’t interfere with the way the patient bites the teeth together.

Partial dentures are thin and less bulky, thus reducing the thickness needed for resistance in resin base materials. The reduced thickness offers more sensation and the flexibility of the metal exerted by the chewing forces. This type of partial denture does not sink with the gums and rarely requires relining. The patient will have ease of use and will not experience difficulties caused by rigid base materials. Cast metal partials are better for patients who exhibit the symptoms of TMJ or bruxism in comparison to flexible framework partials.

  • Partially edentulous
  • No tooth behind the edentulous space

  • Trauma to the jaw-bone
  • When the remaining teeth need stabilization against lateral and anterior-posterior forces

Removable partial dentures with cast metal frameworks offer various benefits over the regularly used partial dentures. These dentures’ frameworks are custom-made to match the patient’s teeth and gums. Here are some of the benefits of cast partial dentures:

  • Minimal tissue alteration
  • Highly functional and easy to adjust
  • Patient comfort
  • Greater longevity
  • Requires less relining or rebasing of the denture
  • The occlusal (biting stress) distribution is good
  • In comparison to a traditional acrylic denture, it needs minimum direct retention
  • Balances the occlusion
  • Supports the lips and cheeks
  • Enhanced stability and resistance
  • Prevents shifting of natural teeth
